Heat Shelter Water Food
How to Be Ready for the Unexpected

ABOUT THE BOOK
I have spent the last year writing the book I wish someone had handed me when I first started building my own house. Heat Shelter Water Food focuses on the four things I think everyone should be equipped with to be able to provide for themselves in any version of the future: The ability to stay warm, with a roof over your head, access to clean water, and food. Not in some end-of-the-world-prepper way, but rather because knowing you can look after yourself, and your family, changes something in how you move through your everyday life. It reduces anxiety, increases calm and lets you keep the high priorities high.
This book is a practical guide to designing your home, and the systems that run it, so that you always have reliable access to the basics. With a bit of understanding and some strategic planning, any home can be made more resilient and more ready for whatever comes next. With Ireland changing the way it supplies power and heat to our homes, there is a real opportunity for people to take a bit more control. Every chapter walks through how a system actually works, from electricity and heat to water and food, and the practical steps needed to build in a backup system, and reduce your reliance on any single supply.
No assumption of a big budget, a rural acre, or a technical background. A weekend and a tiny budget, or a bigger investment over time, there's a useful path offered here, either way. Grounded in the Irish context, written from real experience and focused on what actually works.
The aim of this book is to leave readers feeling capable rather than anxious. This isn't a book about fear, it's about your relationship with your home, and building a shelter you can count on, on your own terms, at your own pace.
